San Antonio Museum of Art: Week 04 (Last Week)
Artwork by Marilyn Lanfear, found wooden objects and woodcuts
Prototype craft activity to pair with the Marilyn Lanfear exhibition opening
Through this past week I have done a lot of research on what type of sample art pieces stimulate the visually impaired and how samples can help them interpret the art within the museum better. I have also worked with one of the education directors with researching and brainstorming different craft ideas that could pair with their up coming exhibition of works from Marilyn Lanfear. Researching and working on samples like this has both similar purposes, it is so that people can have a more tangible understanding of the art and how they can interact with it through a craft. Being able to create part of these prototype crafts for similar uses is very interesting and something that the museum cares about because they create as many samples and create as many activities for each exhibition as they can. As my internship comes to an end, I have realized that I love researching different ways people can interact ways with the art and creating activities and samples in order for people to do so. This is an experience that I have enjoyed and has inspired me to look further into museum careers. These events have influenced me to open up to new ideas and career paths that I necessarily wouldn't of though of for myself. Which is something that I think this whole Smithsonian experience is all about, to uncover new interest and keep moving forward even if something goes not as planned. I am very grateful for these new experiences that I have gathered from The San Antonio Museum of Art.
