Last Week at the Adler Planetarium
As I entered my last week at Adler, I was both sad and excited. I was sad it was coming to an end but excited for what would come. I am so thankful for this amazing experience that has taught me so much about myself and SPACE. I'm not quite sure where to begin, I've learned so incredibly much these past few weeks.
This week started by speaking to college students and staff. It was informative and important since I leave for college in just weeks. It was helpful to have people I could ask relevant questions to in front of me. I also did more surveying and inputting of the data. I was able to get a sneak peak of the data so far. This project is to answer the question whether live narration is better or not. I was surprised to find how many none "preferences" or "both" that were recorded. I was also tasked with measuring the cubic feet of the collections space.
One concept that always was able to take me by surprise and make me think is how I was involved in future planning. The work I completed this summer would help and maybe even be a part of the future. This is somewhat mind blowing as I think of how my handwriting on the storage of meteorites may be there for the next 15-30 years! My work with calculating cubic feet of the collections space may help with the relocation of artifacts for a long time to come. Everything done was for improving the future. Out of everything I have learned, that might just be my favorite aspect.
I tried to treasure my last week at the Adler by going to the gift shop (receiving a discount) , making stronger connections and even by watching my last clock winding. Clock windings are special because not only is it a chance for all employees to learn about the collections items but it is also a fun experience where many are gathered together for the love and interest of science. It also becomes a little break from working! Here is a video of my last clock winding in action!
While my internship just reached it's ending my relationship with my supervisors and the Adler has not. I will keep in touch with the amazing people I have met. I (again) can't put into words how grateful I am for this wonderful experience. I even made some thank you cards for my supervisors and personalized art on each card. Here is one example and the cards laid out together. I even received a card from them myself! I plan to see them again soon before I leave for college. A special shout out to Rosalia, Chris, Jessica, Pedro and Shoshie, thank you! I feel much more prepared for what life may have in store for me. I also now was able to get special behind the scenes look of how Adler operates. I was able to consider career paths I didn't know existed and see the wonderful blend of humanities and science. Next up: College. Heres some beautiful pictures of my great city as I feel more connected to it than ever !
