Frost Science Museum: Week 3

I can't believe there's only one week left of this internship!  This week has very clearly been my favorite.  The theme of this week's summer camp was Ancient Earth and I thought it would be boring, but it was so fascinating.  The campers learned about dinosaurs, primitive humans, and geology.  The most fun parts were that they had all kinds of interactive crafts and activities.

For example, the kids got to demonstrate the movements of tectonic plates using oreo cookies!  They also got to make their own geodes out of melted hard candies (I liked my job to prepare for this craft; I got to smash the candies into little pieces!).  Another craft they made was sample fossils by imprinting toy dinosaurs into clay, and using play dough to make their own core samples.

Additionally, this week there were significantly fewer students which actually allowed the children to focus more on the lessons instead of being distracted by bad behavior.  I feel like this also helped everything flow much smoother from transitioning between activities and bringing the children from place to place.

I hope next week will be just as good or even better to bring a great end to the camp and this internship and I hope the children are appreciating the amazing opportunity they had to attend!
