San Antonio Museum of Art: Week 02
Through my second week at the San Antonio Museum of Art my assignments were to assist with the museums program for toddlers called Play dates. Another assignment that I have worked on throughout the week has been editing and revising some of the museums scavenger hunt activity sheets. Working with older children this week has taught me how the museum tries to incorporate different types of educational programming for different demographics of the community. This has shown me how the museum cares about growing their audience and continues to innovate their programming activities. Through assisting with these different educational programming activities I have learned what type of activities engage babies and toddlers. Babies are more responsive to smells and noises, whereas toddlers are more active so they can do craft activities or listen to stories and be engaged. From assisting with these programs that the museum has monthly has increased my knowledge of how children learn and how to get them engaged in activities, this will help me next week when I will be one of the YAP ambassadors that will be hosting the community outreach activity at a local library in San Antonio. This week has caused me to face different situations such as new situations I encountered on the Washington week, such as completely editing and revising worksheets has taken hours, to the diction being used and the format, everything had to be updated and this has taken up most of my time this week. I am excited to be one of the hosts leading the community leadership activity at the library, these past two weeks has given me child educational programming experience which will help me immensely next week.
