San Antonio Museum of Art: Week 01
Through my first week as an intern at the San Antonio Museum of Art, I have learned a lot about how important programming and tours are to the museum. My first week's assignments have been to assist in making some props needed for the museums monthly Art Crawl, which is a education program for parents to bring their babies into the museum for story time then activities and followed by a gallery tour (the pictures above are photos from the Art Crawl program). Another task that I will be helping with is to update the volunteer log that is then transferred into a document on the computer to keep track of the amount of docent, volunteer, and interns that come through the museum each day. This data helps the museum collect information that can be used to get grants. I have learned how the education programming of a museum can really increase the flow of people that will visit the museum and how it can encourage people to come back. This is why museum programs and workshops should be constantly happening, to get the community involved. To keep all these different programs going and continuous planning happening it takes a team to collaborate and come up with ideas and leading the programs/workshops with the museum members and public. As an intern I have already seen the similarities between the museum, Young Ambassadors program, and Washington week, it is a constant flow of learning new things and collaborating with others in order to create something new. I have also learned new skills such as being a helper and leader through the Art Crawl program.
