To think the span of four whole weeks has gone by in the blink of eye. My experience here in the HistoryMiami Museum has taught me a new world of knowledge. The fact that I had a project throughout the entire internship gave me a sense of purpose and gave me a goal to aim for. What feels like just yesterday I arrived into the doors of the HistoryMiami Museum only to be welcomed into one of their morning meetings and to be incorporated into them as part of the staff. Learning the inner workings of the Museum was not the only thing I learned but rather the history of Miami from over 12,000 years ago to present times and folk cultures.
This week I got to visit a different Museum, the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, that was not about history but rather it was about science. It was very interesting to see a completely different working environment, this museum was primarily targeted for younger audiences that however it allowed a great interaction for adults as well. I learned that more people visit museums per year than sporting events combined including the championships. Before this internship I did not appreciate museums that much but now I understand the importance that they play in society, thus I have grown not only to appreciate museums but love them as well.
This week I also got to go on a lighthouse tour where we went to Bill Baggs State Park and learned the history of the area, we went with a summer group of kids and even got to climb the lighthouse. Above you can see the both the lighthouse and the view from the top.

Overall, my experience at the Historymiami Museum was incredible and most definite a well worth summer experience, going out into college and the “real world” I feel more prepared than I did a month ago. Special thanks to the Smithsonian Latino Center and Historymiami MUseum for providing me an opportunity to learn this summer.
