Fort Worth Museum of Science and History: Week 03
I am so sorry for the delay on the posting of this blog entry. This has been the busiest week of my internship so far. Week 03 has been the most eventful yet. I had my two biggest projects rolling out this week and with a lot of preparation, a great team, and a little bit of sweat (from running around) they were a success!
My first project was working with a high school summer camp group called "Camp Fire". They are individuals who are focused on becoming college ready and serving their community. My internship director Anne and I prepared three different hands-on activities for them to learn and practice guest facilitation. They will be joining us again and leading these activities August 2nd for a special event. After we constructed sound sandwiches, created fun inflatables, and fired up some shrinky dinks we had time to reflect on our experience. (Sound familiar? I miss the debrief sessions after dinner.) This gave us an opportunity to brainstorm for next time around and make sure everything runs even more smoothly.
Secondly, the museum had one of it's coolest events of the summer last night called "Science on Tap." This event combined the world of science with technology to discuss current bio-tech advancements. I had the opportunity to help prepare for one of the hands-on activities "Organ Felting." This preparation was "felt" good and ready to go before ticket sales spiked up the night before the event. Although it was a moment of panic we didn't have to worry. We always keep extra materials stashed away and needle and thread isn't everyone's cup of tea.
This busy week was very rewarding. Despite the moments where things seemed like they were going to completely fall apart I knew it was going to be okay. My team had my back and we kept moving forward. I'm looking forward to next week where I'll have an opportunity to venture into the world of finance and budgeting and also do my outreach story time!
Los veo la próxima semana familia,
