Dear Mr. Hamilton Week
This week was all about Dear Mr. Hamilton. We learned about Mr. Hamilton’s life and what we had done for his country. The kids did not only learn about him but about the many women and kids who took on big rolls during the war. They learn how to spy and how to deliver a secret message without getting caught like the lady who was taken to custody but could not be searched by a man. During the time she waited for a lady to search her, she had memorized the message, tear it into little pieces and ate it. She did it all to inform our allies.
At this camp, we do a lot of hands on activities which is always fun. We have taught the kids about the intruments, wool, guns, secret codes used during those times. Kids seem very interested when we had them dress up with many layer after layer of clothing just like they wear back then. I’m very impressed with the kids I had this week. They have such a political mind. They talk about congress and the different parties there is in the government among themselves.
We visited one of the galleries at the museum called The NUEVOlution Gallery. It’s all about Latinos and Hispanics. It has so many stereotypes from both side Americans and Hispanics. Not only that but from Asians as well. It also has a little poll where you can write things that you have been called, racist, sexist situations you have experienced which will later be part of another gallery. There’s a table called “This is what I eat at home” and the kid got to create their own meal based on what’s cultural to them. The food blocks states where the food originated from.
